Iwo Jima Memorial
The United States Marine Corps Memorial, or Iwo Jima Memorial as it is more commonly known, commemorates the battle of Iwo Jima in February 1945. The memorial sculpture, inspired by Joe Rosenthal's famous picture of six soldiers raising the Stars and Stripes, was created by Felix DeWeldon and dedicated on November 10, 1954 by president Dwight D. Eisenhower.
