Current Gallery: waterworks ( piece)
I'm a surfer so I have a fascination with the ocean. The way its ever-changing form can completely transform the coastal landscape: one day a haven of comfort and calm, the next a place of foreboding and danger. Even as you're watching, it's changing before your eyes. Always moving and ALL moving. I could stare at it for hours. The rise and fall of the tides. The tiny white flecks far out to sea that in reality are breakers and troughs which could swamp a small boat. I'm enthralled by the power of the swell shifting the ocean floor as it passes and forging the future shape of our coastlines. My facsination extends to pools and ponds and even puddles. The smallest body of water can catch the light and turn a scene to gold. The surface of a swimming pool can be a mirror or a mosaic. A pothole can contain the reflection of a thirty storey office block. All the prints in this gallery contain water, although their connection might otherwise seem tenuous. Without even being aware if it, water in all its forms has emerged as a recurring theme in my work.
